Colourful flowers and people at Fatehabad’s park
As I daily pass through the arched gates of the Papiha Public Park at my home town Fatehabad, colourful bougainvillea flowers sound a welcoming note. So do the park’s green cover of shisham, neem, Jasmine, gulmohar, peepal and banyan trees. The lush green landscape with flowery shrubs is a soothing balm to its visitors.
Town’s residents, including senior citizens, are regular visitors to the park. Schoolchildren throng it on weekends and holidays.
I have met many interesting people at this park. One of the regular visitors is octogenarian advocate Sant Kumar ‘Darvesh’, who is a prolific writer and storyteller. In his memoirs and books, he has extensively written about the pains and sufferings of Punjabis who migrated to India after Partition. People like him enrich the life of a small city like Fatehabad.
