Navi Mumbai Cyber Fraud: 42-Year-Old Koparkhairane Businessman Duped Of ₹2.74 Crore In Online Gaming Scam; Case Registered
Navi Mumbai: A businessman residing in Koparkhairane lost Rs 2.74 crore due to his involvement in online gaming. It has been revealed that a cyber gang duped the businessman of the entire amount through a fraudulent online gaming website named 'Sat Sports'. The Cyber Police of Navi Mumbai have registered a case under charges of fraud and the IT Act, and have initiated an investigation against the cyber gang.
The complainant, Sunilkumar (42), resides in Sector 5, Koparkhairane, and runs a building materials supply business. In December 2022, he received a link and a mobile number related to the "Sat Sports" online gaming platform from a friend. After logging into the platform, a member of the cyber gang contacted him and falsely claimed that the company was a listed entity, promising attractive returns through investment in the games.
Trusting their claims, Sunilkumar initially invested Rs 1.9 lakh and began playing. After receiving a return of Rs 1.6 lakh, his faith in the platform increased. He continued to transfer small winnings into his bank account, which further built his confidence. Between December 2022 and April 2025, over a span of two and a half years, Sunilkumar invested more than Rs 3.24 crore in various online games such as Teen Patti, casino games, and others.
The gaming website showed that he had won Rs 5.10 crore in total. However, when he attempted to withdraw the amount, he was only able to retrieve Rs 50 lakh in several installments. When he tried to withdraw the remaining winnings, he was unable to do so. Upon contacting individuals linked to the Sat Sports platform, he received no satisfactory response. Eventually, his gaming accounts were shut down, and the displayed winnings also disappeared.
"The QR codes for payment were sent to Sunilkumar via specific mobile numbers. When he tried to contact those numbers, none were answered. He then searched Google for the company's customer care number and office address, only to find that no such office existed at the given location. This led him to realize that Sat Sports was a fraudulent website. He then approached us and filed a formal complaint," a police officer from Cyber police station said. The police are further investigating the case to trace the accused.
