Mumbai News: Colaba Police Crack Housebreaking Case In 13 Hours, Recover Gold Worth ₹5.54 Lakh
Mumbai: The Colaba Police have successfully cracked a housebreaking within 13 Hours and theft case reported earlier this month and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 5.54 lakh. The incident had taken place between May 6 and May 18 at Bapu Nakhwa Chawl, Lala Nigam Road, Colaba. The arrested accused identified as Mayur alias Arjun Hareswar Tandel (19) resident of Azad Nagar, Lala Nigam Road, Colaba and Vinayak Dilip Ambavane (19) resident of Jamshedji Bandar, Lala Nigam Road, Colaba and third is minor.
According to police, the complainant, 70-year-old Mirabai Shivaji Yewale, reported that unknown individuals had broken into her locked house When she went to Native Place and stolen gold ornaments stored in a wooden cupboard. According to Complaint Colaba Police Station have registered under Sections 305, 331(3), 331(4), 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) on 18 May.
Total Stolen Property includes25g Lakshmi gold necklace – Rs 1.5 lakh, 30g gold mangalsutra – Rs 2 lakh, 30g two-layered gold necklace – Rs 2 lakh
And 4g small two-layered necklace – Rs 4,500. Total value of Stolen ornaments is Rs 5,54,500. Upon receiving the complaint, PSI Amol Nirmal and Crime Detection Team PSI Vijay Gawde rushed to the spot with the fingerprint team and began investigation. Acting on a tip-off from an informant, the police tracked the suspects hiding near Morya Temple, Sundar Nagar. They were detained and, upon interrogation, confessed to the crime.
During a search conducted in the presence of panchas, the entire stolen property was recovered from their possession. The adult accused were formally arrested following the Supreme Court guidelines and produced before court, which remanded them to police custody.
The juvenile accused was handed over to his father, with a notice to appear before the Juvenile Justice Board. He was produced before the Board on May 19, and has been sent to Juvenile Justice Court till June 2 as per court orders. Senior PI Promod Bhovte of Colaba Police Station confirmed the arrest and recovery and stated that further investigation is underway.
