Kataria flags off 26 new PCR vehicles, reviews performance of UT police

To enhance the law enforcement capabilities of the Union Territory, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria flagged off 26 new Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles at the Chandigarh Police Headquarters in Sector 9 here today. The addition of these vehicles is expected to boost patrolling efficiency, reduce emergency response time, and strengthen public safety mechanisms across the city.

The flagging-off ceremony was attended by senior police officials, including DGP Raj Kumar Singh, SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP (Security and Traffic) Sumer Partap Singh, SP (City) Geetanjali Khandelwal, SP (HQ) Manjit Sheoran and SP (Crime) Jasbir Singh.

The launch of the 26 PCR vehicles marks a major milestone in modernising Chandigarh’s policing infrastructure. These vehicles will play a crucial role in emergency response, public assistance, and crime deterrence, particularly in areas requiring rapid intervention.

The Governor’s presence and guidance at the event reflect a broader commitment to strengthening the police force’s capabilities through modern tools, structured accountability, and citizen-oriented service delivery. The initiative aligns with the Administration’s long-term strategy to promote a safe, responsive, and well-equipped police system that can effectively tackle both traditional and emerging challenges in urban law enforcement.

Following the launch event, Governor Kataria chaired a crime review meeting with station house officers (SHOs) and sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs), where he took a detailed review of police station-wise performance and their day-to-day functioning. During the interaction, the Governor laid strong emphasis on the need for regular meetings at every police station to ensure accountability and proactive crime prevention.

He also directed officials to prioritise efficient patrolling, intensive checks in crime-prone localities, and robust surveillance of known criminals. Recognising the importance of performance benchmarking, Governor Kataria called for the introduction of a monthly ranking system for all police stations.
