Warns of Covid resurgence

Amid concerns of a Covid-19 resurgence in Capital, the Delhi Congress has urged Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to ensure timely medical preparedness. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) spokesperson Naresh Kumar submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, stressing the need for urgent action to avoid a repeat of the crisis witnessed during the previous waves.

In the letter, Kumar warned that waiting for the situation to worsen would be a grave mistake. “Thousands lost their lives last time due to the government’s delay in responding. We cannot afford such lapses again,” he said.

He demanded that major hospitals in the city be equipped with adequate oxygen supply, beds, ventilators, and other critical resources. He also urged the government to expand Covid testing and vaccination centers, ensure training and resources for healthcare workers, and set up a 24×7 control room to monitor the situation.

“Delhi is already struggling with inflation, pollution, and civic problems. Any negligence in handling a Covid resurgence will prove disastrous,” he added.

He also pointed to a lack of coordination between the Chief Minister’s Office and the Health Department, noting the absence of any visible preparations in hospitals. Drawing parallels to the previous wave, he recalled the haunting scenes of overwhelmed crematoriums and bodies along the Yamuna.

A copy of the memorandum has been sent to L-G VK Saxena, requesting his intervention to ensure coordination between the Centre and the Delhi Government.
