India's England Tour: Major Shake-Up In Batting Order - Details Inside

With the conclusion of IPL 2025, Team India is gearing up for its upcoming tour of England. While the BCCI has yet to announce the official squad, reports about potential selections and batting roles are emerging.

Notably, veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not feature in this series, having recently retired from Test cricket.

KL Rahul Likely to Open; Gill Could Drop to No. 4

According to a Cricbuzz report, head coach Gautam Gambhir has informally indicated to KL Rahul that he may be required to open the innings. If this plan is implemented, Rahul will likely partner with Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top. Shubman Gill, who typically opens, could shift to the No. 4 spot, while the No. 3 position may go to either Sai Sudharsan or Karun Nair. This means Shubman might replace Kohli as No. 4 batter.

Karun Nair Set for a Comeback?

Karun Nair has had a sensational domestic season, scoring 863 runs in 9 Ranji Trophy matches with four centuries, and 779 runs in just eight innings of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, including five centuries. His consistent form has reportedly made him a strong contender for selection in the Test squad for England.

Core Squad to Stay Intact

Except for a few changes, the majority of the squad is expected to resemble the one that toured Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. With Kohli and Rohit no longer in the picture, the England tour could mark the beginning of a new era in Indian Test cricket.
