Odisha: Baripada Municipality Official Arrested for Taking Bribe

Baripada: Gopal Pradhan, Senior Revenue Assistant at Baripada Municipality in Mayurbhanj district was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance today for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000.

The incident occurred while Pradhan was processing an application for transferring the ownership of two shops in the Municipal Market from a deceased individual’s name to his son, the complainant.

The complainant had submitted the application in January 2025, along with necessary documents, to transfer the shops following his father’s demise. However, Pradhan reportedly demanded Rs. 10,000 to facilitate the process.

A case has been registered under Balasore Vigilance PS Case No. 5/2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing, Vigilance stated.
