Ex-Telangana CM KCR’s daughter Kavitha’s ‘letter’ to father creates ripples in political circles
K. Chandrashekar Rao; K. Kavitha
A letter purportedly written by MLC K. Kavitha to her father and former Telangana CM and Opposition leader K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has stunned one and all. The hand-written letter is a feedback on the recent public meeting of KCR which took place in the last week of April on the occasion of the silver jubilee of the party. More than the contents of the letter, the purpose and the manner the letter has found its way into the public domain, has raised eyebrows and questions.
To start with, the letter was written on May 2, almost three weeks ago. So, why did the letter surface now? The development unfolds at a time when Kavitha is away in the United States attending the graduation ceremony of her son. It is unclear who leaked the letter. Was it accidental or intentional? Because, it was not released through a formal channel. Was it released by sources in the Congress or by Kavitha’s team? All sides are mum on the issue. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has not made any official statement nor has Kavitha issued any clarification. Who stands to gain from the letter?
In the recent past, the Congress camp has been trying to give an impression that all is not well in KCR’s family. Does the letter reinforce this argument? Did Kavitha make a move that could politically benefit her? Coming to the letter, written in a mix of Telugu and English, a few positive and negative outcomes as per Kavitha have been highlighted to catch the attention of KCR. Addressing him as “Daddy”, she starts the letter with the line, “Congratulations on the success of the meeting”. She said that the cadre’s morale was high and its testimony was that they stayed till the end of the meeting. She also felt speaking on Operation Kagar was received well and so did paying homage to Pahalgam victims. She also appreciated how he spoke about the failures of the Congress but at the same time refrained from verbally attacking CM Revanth Reddy which was perceived as being graceful.
Kavitha felt that speech could have been better since the ‘punch’ was missing. She said that people expected more from him, hoping that he would remind them that Telangana and KCR and BRS are inseparable. Under the category of ‘negative feedback’, she pointed out that not speaking in Urdu and failing to raise the topics of Waqf bill, SC and BC reservations were a lost opportunity. She also said that veteran party loyalists and grassroots workers should have been given more prominence. She also expressed her dissatisfaction that BJP was not targeted as per her expectations. She recalled that she had also personally suffered because of the BJP. She added that the party thought that the meeting would chart out a roadmap but it did not do so. “At least now, we can hold a plenary for 1-2 days…hear as many opinions from cadres and give them a guideline,” she wrote urging him to ponder over the matter.
Kavitha ended the letter by stating that lower rung leaders feel that access to KCR is limited and suggests that it is better to “reach out to everyone”.
