Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, and Adani Group chief Gautam Adani– two of India’s wealthiest industrialists– have announced to investment a combined Rs 1.25 lakh crore in the Northeast with an aim to promote economic and industrial prosperity in the strategic region.
Gautam Adani announces Rs 50,000 crore investment in Northeast
The announcements were made at the Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025, where the Adani Group announced that it will invest an additional Rs 50,000 crore in the region, following its earlier commitment in February to invest a similar sum in Assam, taking its total investment in the Northeast region to Rs 1 lakh crore.
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said his conglomerate would invest an additional Rs 50,000 crore in the region in the next 10 years across varied sectors like infrastructure, logistics, energy and digital connectivity.
Reliance to invest Rs 75,000 crore
Meanwhile, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani unveiled his grand plan for the development of Northeastern states. Ambani assured investments in six key sectors aimed at the rapid development of states like Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. “I believe this region can be successful like neighboring Singapore,” the billionaire said.
Ambani noted that Reliance has invested Rs 30,000 crore in the Northeast over the last 40 years, and now the conglomerate plans to double its investments in the region to Rs 75,000 crore.
Mukesh Ambani’s BIG plan for developing Northeast
In his address at the summit, Mukesh Ambani highlighted six main areas where his Reliance Industries would focus to boost development, and improve the lives of 4.5 crore people in Northeastern states. The industrialist said his company’s investments would provide direct and indirect employment to more than 25 lakh people in the region.
Here are the areas where Reliance will focus in the Northeast:
- Reliance Industries will increase the purchase of grains, fruits and vegetables to help local farmers, and the company will also set up FMCG plants to boost the region’s retail sector.
- Ambani announced that Reliance will increase solar power production and install 350 integrated compressed biogas plants, to make good good use of barren land in the region.
- Reliance Foundation will establish a 150-bed cancer hospital in Manipur, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and amenities for patients.
- Additionally, the Reliance Foundation will collaborate with Mizoram University to conduct research on breast cancer using genomic data, Ambani said, adding the company has already set up a molecular diagnostic and research lab in Guwahati, which is one of the largest genome sequencing centers in India.
- Reliance Foundation will work with all the eight northeastern states to build Olympic training centers, where young and upcoming athletes will receive training to become Olympic-level athletes in the future.
