EPFO New Circular: PF transfer has become easier with the new order of EPFO, application will not be rejected just because of service period overlap
EPFO New Circular: Such transfer applications of Provident Fund will no longer be rejected only on the ground that there is overlapping in the service period of the previous and next job.
EPFO New Circular: EPFO has given a big relief to the employees and made the process of PF transfer easier than before. Now such transfer applications will not be rejected just on the basis that there is a minor overlapping in the service period of the previous and the next job. That is, the claim of PF transfer will not be automatically rejected due to overlap in the service period of both the jobs. EPFO has issued a new circular in this regard on 20 May 2025, which will benefit thousands of employees.
What is PF transfer claim?
When an employee changes jobs, he can transfer the balance from his old employer’s EPF account to the new employer’s EPF account. This process is called transfer claim. But many times it happens that the service dates of the old and new employer overlap, due to which the transfer claim is rejected.
Overlapping dates will no longer be a hindrance
EPFO has clarified that now transfer claims will not be rejected just because there is an overlap in the service dates of two companies. EPFO has said that “Transfer claims should not be rejected directly due to overlapping service because sometimes it can also happen due to genuine reasons.”
Ban on claim rejection, clarification will be sought only after investigation
According to the new circular, if overlapping dates are found in any transfer claim, then the concerned regional office should not reject that claim. In such cases, clarification will be sought only when it is actually required. The circular states that “The transfer office has been given the responsibility to take the process forward without returning or rejecting the claim and seek clarification only in necessary cases.” What is written in the new circular
EPFO’s circular dated 20 May 2025 states, “It is being observed that transfer claim requests are being rejected by regional offices due to the problem of overlap in service periods (two services recorded at the same time). Although overlapping in services may also occur due to genuine reasons, it should not be considered a ground to stop the transfer…. Therefore, even if the service periods are overlapping, it is mandatory for the transfer claim requests to be processed by the transferring (source) office, they should not be returned or rejected without processing. Only in those cases where it is really necessary to understand the overlapping situation, the claim should be proceeded after obtaining the necessary information.”
Responsibility of investigation on the transfer office
Reiterating the old instructions in the circular, it has been said that it is the responsibility of the transferring (source) office to check all the details and ensure that there is no mistake in the transfer. Also, the Pension Division has also given guidelines for those employees who have more than one PF account number, so that they can get the benefit of EPS (Pension Scheme).
This step of EPFO has brought great relief to the employees. Now PF transfer claim will not be rejected due to technical reasons like overlapping dates, which will reduce the problems of those changing jobs. This will not only make the transfer process faster and easier, but will also create an environment of transparency and trust.
