Govt to deploy anti-smog gun trucks across industrial areas
The Delhi Government, in coordination with the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), will begin deploying GPS-enabled CNG-operated anti-smog gun vehicles equipped with water sprinklers across key industrial areas from June this year to combat industrial air pollution.
Announcing the initiative on Friday, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the measure marks a significant advancement in Delhi’s ongoing fight against air pollution, especially in industrial zones managed by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). The advanced hydraulic anti-smog gun trucks are capable of spraying fine mist up to 30 meters horizontally and rotating 330 degrees to ensure maximum coverage of dusty environments.
“These vehicles will effectively reduce airborne dust and pollutants in industrial areas where fixed sprinklers or anti-smog guns have not yet been installed. Our government is fully committed to ensuring industrial growth while protecting the environment,” said Sirsa.
The vehicles, which have already been deployed in Bawana and Narela industrial areas, will now be operational in other high-density zones such as Patparganj, Okhla Phase-III, Jhilmil, Nangloi, Udyog Vihar, Badli, Bhorgarh and multiple locations within Narela Phase-II. Two additional trucks will be allocated for use in areas under the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
Each truck-mounted unit includes horizontal sprinklers that span the vehicle’s width, allowing for simultaneous misting of road surfaces. The system consumes around 1,500 litres of water per hour and will operate in two daily shifts — early morning (3 am to 7 am) and a second shift during non-peak afternoon hours.
According to officials, the 10-month-long project, excluding the monsoon period, follows a recent high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and is aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote sustainable urban living under the “Viksit Delhi” campaign.
Sirsa emphasised that this initiative reflects the Delhi Government’s dual commitment to fostering industrial development and ensuring environmental sustainability.
“We are taking concrete steps to minimise industrial waste and improve infrastructure so that businesses can thrive responsibly,” he added.
The DSIIDC, which already operates eight water sprinklers and three anti-smog guns in the Bawana and Narela regions, will monitor the extended deployment closely to assess impact and efficiency.
