Minister inspects drainage sites, orders use of drones to monitor cleaning work
Rao Narbir Singh, Minister for Industries, Commerce, Environment and Forests, conducted inspections at several key sites on Thursday, including the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Badhsa, Munda Khera Pump House, the STP Channel at Yakoobpur and the Drain No 8 outfall at Reliance MET.
During the visit, the minister directed officials to complete the cleaning of all drains without delay and instructed that drone videography be employed to monitor and verify the cleaning work. He emphasised that such video documentation would assist headquarters in assessing the quality and scale of the operations.
As part of preparations for the monsoon season, Rao instructed the planting of fruit-bearing and shady trees along the embankments of the drains. He specifically advised replacing ‘Jangli Keekar’ trees with more beneficial species. The Forest Department will supply the saplings, with assistance in planting and upkeep to be provided by local NGOs and environmental volunteers.
The minister also underlined the importance of making full use of the Badhsa STP. Superintending Engineer Satish Janawa informed Rao that the plant has a capacity of 550 million litre per day (MLD), and currently receives 300 MLD of wastewater from Gurugram.
“This water is being treated and reused for irrigation purposes. Eight pump sets are operational and approximately 75 per cent of the electricity used is generated in-house through solar systems,” Janawa noted.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to infrastructure, Rao said: “Our continuous effort is to ensure better basic and infrastructural facilities for the public. When a state is equipped with strong infrastructure, it naturally attracts entrepreneurs, drives investment and creates job opportunities for the youth.”
Also present during the inspection were SDM Badli Satish Yadav, Tehsildar Ajay Kumar and other departmental officers.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Ravindra Patil has issued a strict warning to all officials, stating that any negligence or delay in the cleaning of drains will not be tolerated.
The DC conducted a surprise inspection early on Friday morning to assess the city’s cleanliness and drainage maintenance. He visited several key areas, including Rewari Road, Silani Gate, Rao Tula Ram Chowk, Panchanad Chowk and the Jhajjar Link Drain.
