Moga DC drives tractor to promote DSR technique

To encourage the direct seeding of rice (DSR) among farmers, Moga Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sagar Setia today drove a tractor himself in the fields and demonstrated the water saving method at Budh Singh Wala village in Moga district.

The DC told the farmers that the state government would give Rs 1,500 per acre as help to those who use this method. This method reduces the need for additional labour and reduces expenses, he said.

He also asked the farmers to grow crops like cotton, maize and moong that need less water.

Two farmers, Jaswinder Singh and Narang Singh, said they had been using the DSR method for the last 10 years and never burnt the stubble. They promised to help other farmers by offering free use of their machines.
