Navi Mumbai News: 8-Year-Old Girl Injured After Glass Door Shatters On Her Ferry During Belapur Ferry; Family Alleges Negligence, FIR Filed
An 8-year-old girl, Saanvi Patil, was injured when a glass door shattered aboard a ferry during a family outing, prompting surgery, stitches, and hospitalization. The incident occurred on May 20 during a boat trip on the Flodine Cruise from Belapur Marina Jetty, where Saanvi’s family was celebrating a wedding anniversary.
According to her father, Pravin Patil (41), a civil contractor from Nerul, the family had boarded the ferry around 5:15 PM. "After we cut the cake, my wife went to washroom and my daughter went to wash basin to wash her hands when the glass door broke and fell on her injuring her," her father, Patil, said.
According to the family, after the incident, the boat returned to the jetty and she was rushed to Apollo Hospital and later transferred to Ojas Nursing Home, where she underwent a two-hour surgery and received stitches, said her father.
Patil lodged a complaint with the NRI Police Station, alleging negligence by the ferry operator.
Meanwhile, the owner of the boat, Rajesh Nair, has said that it was an accident that happened due to negligence of the family. "The glass did not break on its own. When the mother went to the washroom, the child who followed the mother, banged against the glass door which was near the washroom and the glass particles injured her. Our staff immediately turned the boat around to the shore and was even ready to accompany the family to hospital but the family refused. The next day of the incident, they asked compensation from me and when I refused, they registered the case. A eight year old child is not allowed in the boat alone, she is accompanied by the family. So the family should had accompanied her when she went behind the mother," Nair said.
An FIR has been registered on Friday, under Sections 125(A) and (B) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for endangering human life or safety.
The family has said that their daughter, who is in class IV now, has been adviced a month's bed rest. "We have registered the case as per the allegation of the complainant and are investigating further," a police officer from NRI Coastal police station said.
