90k cases resolved in National Lok Adalat

The National Lok Adalat held in local courts successfully resolved numerous matrimonial disputes under the supervision of District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, Harpreet Kaur Randhawa.

In one such case, Principal Judge, Family Court, Raman Kumar facilitated a reconciliation between a husband and wife. The couple, married on February 7, 2021, had been living separately since 2024 and filed a joint divorce petition on March 4. However, with the Lok Adalat’s intervention, they reunited, withdrew the petition and left the court in high spirits.

For couples unable to continue their marital lives due to temperament issues or major differences, benches encouraged amicable separation over prolonged litigation marked by hostility.

A bench led by Additional District Judge Amandeep Kaur also resolved an accident injury claim of Shrawan Kumar, who had travelled from Uttar Pradesh for the hearing. With the intervention of Judge and member GS Sodhi, officials from United India Insurance Company—including Regional Manager Krishan Kumar, Manager Shama Arora and Officer Arun Dadwal—agreed to pay Rs 6.75 lakh in compensation.

In total, 90,238 cases were settled during the National Lok Adalat with mutual consent. Awards amounting to approximately Rs 37,03,52,295 were passed.

District Legal Services Authority Secretary-cum-CJM Sumit Sabharwal stated that 32 Lok Adalat benches were constituted across local courts. She added that the public participated enthusiastically in the proceedings.

Bar Association president Vipan Saggar, Secretary Himanshu Walia and Lok Adalat members RD Chhabra and Rajneesh Gupta played an active role in the successful conduct of the event.
