World’s fastest missile can cover whole of Pakistan in 5-6 minutes, its speed is…, it’s made by…
World’s fastest missile: In an attack on terror, India conducted air strikes on Pakistan through Operation Sindoor, killing more than a hundred terrorists through its BrahMos supersonic missile. However, do you know which missiles of the world are known for being the fastest missiles of the world. You would be surprised to know that the Russian-developed Avangard Hypersonic Glide Vehicle is the fastest missiles in the world. Here are all the details you need to know about the world’s fastest missile.
Putin mentions world’s fastest missile
The Avangard (Avangard Hypersonic Glide Vehicle) is the world’s fastest missile. Announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle was made as a response to US development of a new generation of weapons. The missile was launched in 2018, a U.S. missile defence system that it could penetrate.
As per a statement made by the Russian President, as the Avangard glide missile approaches its target, the the missile detaches from the rocket and manoeuvres sharply outside the trajectory of the rocket at hypersonic speeds of up to 27 times the speed of sound (about 21,000 miles per hour or 34,000 kilometres per hour).
For a speed comparison, the distance of Delhi to western edge of Pakistan is about 2,200 km and the Russian missile can cover the distance in only 5 to 6 minutes. The report also mentions that Russia installed its first Avangard-equipped missile in 2019 at the same Orenburg facility.
Fastest missiles of China and India
If we compare the Russian missiles from that of China’s, the Chinese DF-41 missile has a speed of Mach 25 with a carrying capacity of 10 Multiple Independently-targetable Re-entry Vehicles (MIRVs). On similar lines, the Agni-V missile, which is seen as one of the most advanced missile of India. The missile has a speed of Mach 24 (29,400 km/h). With a range of 8,000 km, the Indian missile can carry 3-6 MIRV warheads.
