In a dramatic development, Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday expelled his eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav from the party for six years for “irresponsible behaviour” and “ignoring moral values”.
Announcing the decision in a post on X, Lalu Prasad said he has also snapped all family relations with Tej.
“Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective struggle for social justice. The activities, public conduct and irresponsible behaviour of the eldest son are not in accordance with our family values and traditions,” he said.
“Therefore, due to these circumstances, I remove him from the party and family. From now on, he will not have any role of any kind in the party and family. He is expelled from the party for 6 years,” said the RJD chief.
The controversy started on Saturday when a photo of Tej with a woman was shared on his Facebook page. The post identified the woman as Anushka Yadav and that the duo were in a relationship for 12 years.
"I am Tej Pratap Yadav, and the girl who is seen with me in this picture is Anushka Yadav. We both have known each other for the last 12 years and love each other deeply. We have been in a relationship throughout these years,” said the now-deleted post.
“I wanted to share this with all of you for a long time but couldn't find the right words. Today, through this post, I am opening my heart to you. I hope you all will understand,” it further said.
The post stirred up a social media storm, with many reminding him of his marriage with Aishwarya, the granddaughter of former Bihar chief minister Daroga Rai, in 2018. Within a few months of the marriage, Aishwarya left his house, alleging that she was driven out by her husband and in-laws.
Many users asked why he married Aishwarya if he was already in a relationship.
Tej later claimed his Facebook account was hacked. "My social media platform was hacked, and my photographs were edited wrongfully," he wrote on X on Saturday night.
