Political storm brews in Thanesar
Kurukshetra: A political storm is brewing in Thanesar between Congress MLA Ashok Arora and former MC councillor Narinder Sharma, who is a husband of the BJP councillor. Both Arora and Sharma had been associates for years, however, after the latter joined the BJP during civic body poll, their friendship fell apart. As a result, holding the General House meetings of Municipal Council in a smooth manner is going to be a tough task.
A tightrope walk for HSGMC chief
Kurukshetra: Though Jagdish Singh Jhinda has become a new president of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC), managing affairs of the committee is going to be a tough task. With his former supporters leading opposition groups and Jhinda taking support from those against whom he openly spoke, he would be walking a tightrope. Despite having the experience of running an ad-hoc committee, with new groups and current circumstances, the HSGMC chief has been forced to urge opposition groups to work for the welfare of all.
Unsafe in police custody
Yamunanagar: Several masked miscreants looted 120 bags of subsidised agriculture grade urea from a godown, which was in the custody of police. The Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department had found 2461 bags of subsidized urea, kept in an unauthorised godown in Tajakpur village. The department seizing urea bags and handed over the possession of the godown to the police. The miscreants attacked the Home Guard jawan deputed at the godown. Locals say that when goods in the police custody are not safe, how can they expect cops to protect them?
Ground check before floating tenders
Karnal: Before floating any tender, Mayor Renu Bala Gupta and her husband former district officiating president of BJP Brij Gupta are seen personally inspecting proposed development sites, walking through uneven paths and narrow lanes to assess ground reality. Accompanied with councillors, the duo interacted with locals and closely examined whether the proposed works are practically feasible. “Before any funds are spent, we want to ensure that the project is actually needed and viable,” said the Mayor. They maintain that this step will help in fixing accountability and responsiveness. The couple’s early morning rounds sparked interest and praise among residents.
Scams, a routine affair
Panipat: Scams have become a routine affair in the Panipat Municipal Corporation. After the ACB booked 12 MC officials and owners of two sanitation companies for causing Rs 15.84 crore loss to the exchequer, two more staffers have been booked for making fake property ID. Installation of decorative lights on the roadside are also under lens. Another complaint of violation of rules in allotment of a cleanliness tender for drain-2 reached the higher officials. Even people have started posting on social media that scams have become a routine.
Slugfest over cleaning of water channel
Hisar: The Congress MLA from Adampur Chander Prakash and BJP MLA from Nalwa Randhir Panihar had a conflict of interest when it came to addressing the grievance of a farmer, who wanted the water channel to be cleaned for smooth supply to his fields in Nyoli Khurd village. Durign the meeting of the District Grievances Committee, farmer Om Prakash raised the demand for cleaning the water channel. Congress MLA Prakash assured him that he would get it done. However, the BJP MLA Panihar objected to it stating that since the village was part of his Nalwa segment, he would get it done. Development and Panchayat Minister Krishan Lal Panwar, who was chairing the meeting urged both the MLAs to jointly work to redress the grievance.
