MC Commissioner conducts surprise inspection of roads
Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Gulpreeet Singh Aulakh on Sunday conducted a surprise inspection of various roads to review the city’s cleanliness and civic amenities.
Starting from Novelty Chowk, his inspection route covered Custom Chowk, Rialto Chowk, Chheharta, Islamabad, Lahori Gate, Bhandari Bridge, Cooper Road, and extended up to the Lawrence Road. During the visit, he also inspected the MC’s auto workshop, where he monitored the movement of garbage collection trolleys and the fuelling process. He offered specific guidance to staff regarding proper fuel management procedures.
Accompanying the MC Commissioner were Medical Officer of Health Dr Kiran, Dr Yogesh Arora, and AMOH Dr Rama. The MC Commissioner emphasised that all departments of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation are working around the clock to maintain the city’s cleanliness and greenery. He appreciated the dedication of the teams formed for this mission and highlighted the pivotal role played by sanitation workers, who, he said, are performing their duties with commitment.
Aulakh noted that modern waste collection machinery has been deployed across all city wards to ensure timely garbage removal. He further announced that three permanent teams have been stationed along the city’s main roads. The teams will work in shifts to maintain cleanliness and will also carry out minor civil maintenance tasks under the supervision of designated nodal officers. Aulakh concluded by stating that such surprise inspections will continue in the future to ensure consistent standards in public hygiene and civic services.
Issues show-cause notices to officials
In Islamabad area, the MC Commissioner expressed dissatisfaction over the state of cleanliness and issued show-cause notices to two officials of the Health Department, holding them accountable for the negligence.
Additionally, he instructed that garbage dumped near Army area in Islamabad be covered using iron sheets. It was noted that sanitation workers are not allowed to clean this area by Army personnel, complicating the maintenance efforts.
