Maharashtra Govt Offers Attractive Incentives To EV Manufacturers & Buyers In New Policy, Know More Here

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has announced the new EV Policy 2025, which offers significant incentives for electric vehicle (EV) purchases. Under this policy, buyers can receive incentives of up to Rs 2 lakh. However, incentives will be provided to a certain number of vehicles, depending on the category.

Electric two-wheelers (e-2W) are eligible for incentives of up to Rs 10,000. Electric three-wheelers (e-3W) will receive Rs 30,000 in incentives. For electric four-wheelers (e-4W), Rs 1,50,000 will be provided as an incentive for non-transport vehicles (cars), and Rs 2,00,000 for transport vehicles (cars).

All electric vehicles sold and registered in Maharashtra during the policy period will be fully exempt from motor vehicle tax. Additionally, the policy provides a 100% toll exemption for passenger electric vehicles on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg, and Atal Setu. This initiative also promotes the development of Sustainable Transport Corridors between Mumbai and Pune, as well as between Mumbai and Nagpur.

As per the notification, all new residential buildings must be designed and constructed to ensure that 100% of parking spaces are electric vehicle charging-ready. This includes necessary infrastructure such as pre-wiring and space allocation for chargers. All new commercial buildings are required to allocate at least 50% of their total parking spaces to be EV charging-ready. This includes the installation of chargers or provision for future installation through appropriate pre-wiring. For existing commercial buildings with shared parking spaces, 20% of the total parking spaces must have operational EV charging stations. Every new residential building must provide one dedicated community electric vehicle charging point. Comprehensive fire safety guidelines will be developed in consultation with the state fire advisor.

These guidelines will ensure the secure installation and operation of EV charging infrastructure within parking spaces in residential and commercial complexes. All special planning authorities (SPAs), including the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), must align their approval processes with these guidelines to ensure uniformity and streamlined implementation for establishing charging infrastructure in residential and commercial areas.
