Mumbai Crime News: 28-Year-Old Man Arrested For Attempting To Dump Newborn Daughter

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old man was arrested by the Parksite Police while attempting to dump his newborn baby girl. The incident occurred near the Bharat Petrol Pump at the Gandhinagar junction on Friday evening.

Police constable Satish Sasane noticed the man behaving suspiciously while travelling in an auto rickshaw, carrying something wrapped in dirty cloth. Upon stopping the rickshaw and inspecting the cloth, the officers were stunned to find a newborn baby girl, according to a Hindustan Times report.

With no woman accompanying the man, the police became suspicious and immediately called a female officer from the Nirbhaya Squad, a special Mumbai Police initiative to protect women and children. Upon the officer’s arrival, the accused became nervous and confused that the baby was his own daughter, born from an illicit relationship with his maternal aunt.

According to an officer, the further investigation revealed that the accused, recently married, had been in a four-year affair with his aunt, who had been living with him in Bhandup, as per the report. She gave birth to the child earlier that day. Fearing the social consequences of the relationship being exposed, the accused misled his aunt, telling her he would take the baby to a friend’s home in Powai. Instead, he intended to abandon the child in an isolated location.

Senior Inspector Santosh Ghatekar of Parksite Police Station mentioned the baby was safely reunited with her mother, and both were admitted to Rajawadi Hospital for care and observation. The accused has been booked under Section 91 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with acts intended to prevent birth or cause death.
