'Unni Mukundan has been too frustrated for a while': Manager of 'Marco' star alleges verbal and physical abuse

Vipin Kumar, a celebrity manager and promotion consultant, has alleged that the Marco and Meppadiyan star Unni Mukundan abused him verbally and physically after he posted a note praising Tovino's latest film, Narivetta. In his statement to the press, Vipin said he has lodged a complaint with the police and several film associations, such as the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA).

Vipin, who has worked with some of the big names in Malayalam cinema, including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, and Kunchacko Boban, shared that he has been in the employ of Unni Mukundan for six years and that the actor was visibly upset with the way his career has been progressing of late. "He has been feeling too frustrated since he has not been getting proper films after Marco. His last release Get-Set Baby flopped, and Gokulam Movies has backed out of his directorial debut. All these reasons have led to him taking it out on those who work with him," added Vipin, who has been in the industry for nearly two decades and has worked as a promotion consultant on Narivetta, too. "It's not my problem that things are not working out for him; it's his own."

This was not, apparently, a one-off incident if Vipin's words are to go by. "Unni didn't like that I posted about Narivetta and called me at night to tell me to put an end to this 'manager business', and I obliged. Then he called me to the basement parking lot and physically and verbally abused me. It's not just this one incident; there have been several which cannot be mentioned at the moment, and everyone should know about them in due time. Unfortunately, I cannot disclose more details keeping in mind that it would cause inconvenience to a lot of other people in the industry. I've mentioned everything in the statement to the police and the complaints to FEFKA, AMMA, and other associations."

Unni has made no compromise attempt so far, as per Vipin. The actor has yet to respond to these claims.

Notably, this is not the first time that Unni has courted controversy. In 2023, he called up a YouTube content creator and, in an expletive-laden conversation, chided him for making negative remarks about his film Malikappuram.
