CM should apologise for remarks against High Court: Jai Ram

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu should apologise for his remarks against the High Court of Himachal Pradesh regarding the handing over of the Vimal Negi death case to the CBI.

Thakur, while talking to mediapersons in Mandi, said that the Chief Minister’s remarks against the High Court were objectionable. “He has made these very serious remarks against the High Court. I think the High Court, too, will take note of the remarks,” he added.

He said that the court had done the right thing by handing over the inquiry into the case to the CBI. “Since prima facie there is a possibility of interference in the investigation, the High Court rightly said in its orders that no police officer of the Himachal cadre should be associated with the probe,” he added. The Chief Minister wanted that officers of his choice should probe the case to influence it, he alleged.

Thakur rubbished the Chief Minister’s allegation that the BJP was trying to politicise the Vimal Negi death case. He said that the Opposition could do politics on several other issues and certainly not on the death of a person. He added that the Chief Minister’s remarks on the High Court judge were totally wrong and reflected his frustration.

He said, “The Chief Minister looks frustrated after the High Court issued orders to transfer the Vimal Negi case to the CBI. The bereaved family had sought a CBI inquiry the same day when Vimal Negi’s body was kept outside the office of HP Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL).” He added that the Opposition, too, had demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.

Earlier, Thakur addressed a rally regarding the Ahilya Bai Holkar centenary celebrations at Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district.
