DGMO told Pak about strikes after execution, EAM tells Parl panel
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday told a parliamentary panel that Pakistan was informed by the DGMO about Indian strikes on terror camps in their territory only after they were executed, sources aware of the developments said.
He said this while chairing the meeting of the consultative committee of the Ministry of External Affairs, where he is said to have also cleared the air about alleged US “interference”, saying the decision to halt the military operation was taken bilaterally after a request from the Pakistan side.
“Chaired the Consultative Committee Meeting of the MEA this morning in Delhi. Discussed #OpSindoor and India’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Underlined the importance of sending a strong and united message in that regard,” Jaishankar said in a post on X.
The Congress’s allegation that the government tipped off Pakistan before military strikes on terrorist infrastructure on May 7 was apparently rebutted by Jaishankar as a misrepresentation, the sources said.
The meeting discussed Operation Sindoor offensive, which was launched to target terrorist facilities on Pakistani soil in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack. Jaishankar also categorically rejected any claims that he had spoken to the Pakistani side.
Sources further informed that the EAM told the MPs in the meeting that only the DGMOs of the countries spoke to each other and no other Indian official spoke with the Pakistani side. The minister also told the MPs that Pakistan had sought the help of the US in halting the operations by India and the US side was told clearly that Pakistan should speak directly to India.
