Chaos At Gram Sabha: Chair-Throwing Clash Over Grampanchayat Division Halts Meeting
The Jogeshwari Group Grampanchayat in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar had organised a gram sabha to discuss various issues including the division of the grampanchayat at Ramrai on Monday. However, there was a free-style fight among the members and the meeting had to be concluded without taking any decision in the matter.
The Jogeshwari Group Grampanchayat has five villages including Jogeshwari, Ramrai, Kamlapur, Naigaon – Bakwalnagar and Ramraiwadi. Geographically, the grampanchayat is very big and it has been proposed that it should be divided. A gram sabha was organised at Ramrai to discuss the division and other issues at the Zila Parishad School Ground on Monday.
The subjects of the meetings were to read the minutes of the previous meeting and sanction the subjects. Discussion on the proposal of the division of the grampanchayat. To select the beneficiaries of various schemes. To close illegal country-liquor shops. Information of various works of various departments to the gram sabha. Review of the development work, issue of fair price shops, annual administrative report, review of the employment guarantee scheme and the subjects on the spot.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Yogita Argade started at 11 am. Initially, some issues were discussed then the issue of division of the grampanchayat was tabled. However, the members had severe indifferences over the issue and there was chaos during the meeting. The members abused and manhandled each other. Some members also threw chairs on each other. Thus, the meeting was concluded without any discussions and any decisions in the tense atmosphere.
