Empowering future leaders: 3 Patiala students spend a day with the DC
Three young girls from government schools in Patiala district — who recently earned top scores in their Class X results — spent the day in the company of Deputy Commissioner Dr Preeti Yadav.
Their dreams were given wings under the Punjab government’s special initiative ‘One Day with DC and SSP Sang’, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The students — Mehakpreet Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School; Maru (97.69%), Simran of School of Eminence, Philkhana (97.38%); and Amanpreet Kaur of Government Senior Secondary School, Ghazipur — got an exclusive opportunity to observe the inner workings of the district administration. They witnessed first-hand how the DC’s office functions, sat in public hearings, observed court case disposals, attended departmental meetings, and interacted with senior officials.
The girls shared their excitement, saying, “Today, we had the chance to sit with the Deputy Commissioner, listen to people’s problems, and see how decisions are made. It’s something we’ll never forget.”
Speaking about the initiative, Dr Preeti Yadav said, “The aim of this programme is to inspire deserving students and show them what’s possible when they dream big and work hard.” She shared that among the three, one student aspires to become a chartered accountant while the other two aim to become doctors — and they were given appropriate guidance towards achieving these goals.
When the students asked the DC about her own journey and challenges, Dr Yadav shared her experience of preparing for and clearing the UPSC exam. She gave them the mantra of hard work: focus, and never give up — encouraging them to stay determined in the face of any obstacle.
“We have realised how much effort it takes to reach such positions. Our dreams feel more real now, and we are more determined than ever to become what we aspire to be,” the girls said.
