Jammu & Kashmir Govt To Build Memorial For 26 Tourists Killed By Terrorists In Pahalgam Terror Attack

Pahalgam: The Jammu & Kashmir government led by CM Omar Abdullah on Tuesday decided to erect a memorial to memory of the 26 tourists who were gunned down by Pakistan-backed terrorists in Pahalgam on April 22.

The Abdullah cabinet took a decision at a meeting held in Pahalgam on Tuesday.

Abdullah stated this in an interaction with select mediapersons. He said the government was ashamed that it could not send back the tourists back home. He said this thought will haunt for a very long time.

He rejected a suggestion to raise money for the project through a national crowdfunding campaign. " it's our duty to finance this project. Our PWD ministry will erect a befitting memorial," he added.

Abdullah declined to go into the question why the terrorists of April 22 were still not arrested. He indicated that security was not under the state government. But he pointed that the entire people of J&k and the media had rallied together in denouncing the massacre and expressed their solidarity with the families of the victim's. He said everything now needs to be done to prevent terror attacks in future.

Abdullah and his father and National Conference leader Dr Farooq Abdullah made a fervent appeal to people in the rest of the country to stand by the people of J&K in this hour of need and revive it's tourism industry, which was it's life line, In a big way.
