Encroachments along NH razed
The Chandigarh Administration today carried out a special demolition and clearance drive to remove encroachments on the Right of Way (ROW) along National Highway 5, covering the stretch from Hallomajra Light Point to the UT boundary (Zirakpur side).
The operation, carried out on the directions of UT District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav, covered nearly 2.5 km. It was executed smoothly and efficiently with the coordinated efforts of the Engineering Department, Chandigarh Police and other authorities concerned.
The primary objective of the drive was to reclaim public land and ensure the unhindered development and expansion of infrastructure as per the approved master plan viz cycle track.
The encroachments on this vital corridor had not only hindered development activities, but also posed serious traffic and safety concerns.
Repeated notices and opportunities for voluntary removal had been served to the encroachers in advance. However, upon non-compliance, the Administration proceeded with firm yet peaceful action.
A dedicated team of officers, police personnel and field staff ensured that the drive was conducted without any disruption to public order. Necessary logistical arrangements were made in advance to maintain traffic flow and ensure minimal inconvenience to the commuters and nearby residents.
The reclaimed area will now be developed as per the Chandigarh Administration’s approved infrastructure plan, which includes road widening, construction of service lanes, pedestrian walkways and beautification of the corridor.
