Several rounds of fire opened at liquor shop in Yamunanagar
An unidentified miscreant allegedly opened several rounds of fire at a liquor shop situated on the Govindpuri road in Yamunanagar on Tuesday morning.
Two employees were present at the liquor shop at the time of the incident, and they had a narrow escape. After getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot and started an investigation. According to information, a miscreant came to the liquor shop at about 7 am.
Girish Chander, an employee of the liquor shop, told mediapersons that the miscreant threw some paper slips inside the shop, and then opened about 12 rounds of fire, damaging a glass door and some liquor bottles. Chander and one other employee were present at the shop, he said.
After getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot. The forensic team collected evidence.
As per available information, the CCTV cameras of the liquor shop were non-functional. The police are searching the footage of other CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity.
A police official said some paper slips were recovered from the spot, but he did not disclose what was written in these. City police station SHO Satish Kumar said a case had been registered in this regard, and the matter was being investigated.
As per an official of the Excise and Taxation Department, Yamunanagar, there are 55 liquor zones in the district, which are schedule to be auctioned for financial year 2025-26 on May 31.
Sources said a business rivalry may be behind the firing incident.
