Technology, equipment at Chamiyana hospital, IGMC to be upgraded: Sukhu
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu yesterday advised doctors to improve their behaviour with patients. Sukhu made a slew of announcements for the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital, Shimla, and the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties at Chamiyana in Shimla, while interacting with the faculty from these two hospitals.
He said, “Patients come to a hospital with a lot of hope. If you talk to them nicely, they feel really good about it. So, you need to change your behaviour towards them. I know your are under a lot of pressure and stress due to the workload. So, when you get tired, you tend to get angry. Only you can figure out how to manage your anger.”
Sukhu, while addressing the faculty members, said that machines and equipment older than 20 years in government health institutions would be replaced within a year. “Robotic surgery will be started in the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties, Chamiyana, and Tanda medical college within two months. Besides, three Tesla MRI machines are also being installed in all medical colleges in a phased manner,” he added.
He said that his government, unlike the previous regime, had given priority to the health sector and spent Rs 1,350 crore on medical technology. “The government will provide funds for the construction of hostels for students and upgrade the parking facility for patients and the staff,” he added.
Sukhu said that the government was trying to fill vacancies in the Health Department. “The posts of doctor are being filled on priority and preference is being given to nurses, who had worked during the Covid-19 pandemic, in the recruitment process,” he added.
Sukhu said, “We are ensuring doctor-patient and nurse-patient ratios as per the international standards so that they can get a better work environment. He added that the government had spent Rs 100 crore for the improvement of health services in the IGMC, Shimla, and Rs 200 crore more would be provided shortly.
