Toppers get civic insights, inspiration under ‘One Day with DC’ initiative
Under the Punjab Government’s special “One Day with DC” initiative, Hoshiarpur district students who secured first, second and third positions in class 10th had a motivating day with Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain.
The scheme aimed not only to felicitate meritorious students but also to introduce them to the realities of administrative experience, leadership, and public service.
The students were warmly welcomed at the DC residence at 7 am. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain participated in an introductory session with the students, providing insight into her disciplined daily routine. They took part in a yoga session with the DC, who highlighted the importance of yoga and morning exercise, advising students to lead a healthy life. The students then had breakfast with her.
After 9 am, the students toured the District Administrative Complex, witnessing first-hand the functioning of various departments, the public grievance redressal system and the process of implementing government schemes. They also observed a mini development plan meeting, where district development issues were discussed. Later, they had lunch with Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nikas Kumar, SDM Hoshiarpur Gursimranjit Kaur and SDM Tanda Parampreet Singh at the Services Club.
In the afternoon, they visited the Additional Deputy Commissioner’s office and were briefed about activities related to rural development.
In the evening, the students visited the Digital Library Hoshiarpur and Van Chetna Park, Basi Purani. They learned about the facilities provided in the library and engaged with youth preparing for competitive exams. An open discussion session followed between the students and the Deputy Commissioner, where students shared their experiences and listened to motivational thoughts from the DC.
The students were honoured by Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain with mementos and well wishes for their future. The DC remarked that this program not only educated students about government administration but also instilled leadership, discipline, and a spirit of public service. She added that initiatives like “Ek Din DC Ke Saath” could be a turning point in positively shaping students’ lives.
Mehakpreet Kaur, a student of Government Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Talwara, who secured first position; Surekha, a student of the same school, who secured second position; and Mantavya Singh, a student of Government Senior Secondary School Attowal, who secured third position, welcomed this initiative of the district administration.
They described it as a valuable experience that helped them understand administrative processes, leadership, and public service. Calling it unforgettable and inspiring, they expressed that it would guide them in deciding their future goals.
Parents also praised the initiative for the overall development of the students. District Education Officer Lalita Arora visited during the event.
