13-year-old hangs self, dies
A 13-year-old girl from Araichan village in Doraha, Anita, died after she allegedly hanged herself using a wire on Monday afternoon.
While her father and mother were away for work, she was at home with her siblings at the time of the incident. The parents said she was trying to imitate a character in a TV serial at the time of the incident but the police suspect isolation or work pressure to be the cause of her death. The body has been handed over to her kin after autopsy. Proceedings have been executed by the Doraha police under Section 194 of the BNS.
The father of the deceased, Raj Balav, said when his 13-year-old eldest daughter, Anita, was watching a serial along with her siblings at home, she tried to imitate a scene by climbing a table and tying a wire around her neck. “During which, the table broke and she lost her balance. Her siblings ran out for help but till the time they returned, Anita had breathed her last,” shared the father.
He said his daughter was studying in Class VIII at a local school in Doraha.
The police, however, has refuted all statements made by her father.
Doraha SHO Akash Dutt said he was the first one to reach the house, after getting information.
“The parents of the girl were away for work. No television was switched on at the time of the incident and we recovered no broken table from the scene,” he said.
“The family had shifted from Bihar six months ago and the girl used to look after her three siblings while the father and mother were away for work. The girl was not studying at present in any school as her name had not yet been struck off from the school in Bihar where she was studying earlier. The victim seemed to be either under the pressure of homely chores or a victim of isolation. It is learnt that she remained quiet and seldom talked to anyone at home. It seems to be an apparent case of suicide. The girl’s body has been handed over to her kin after a post-mortem examination,” the SHO said.
