Vote to strengthen democracy, students told

In an effort to boost the voter turnout for the upcoming Ludhiana West byelection, the district administration organised a voter awareness campaign on Tuesday at the Government College for Girls, Bharat Nagar. The event aimed at inspiring young voters, especially students, to actively participate in the democratic process by casting their votes on the polling day, June 19.

Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain urged students to take responsibility for strengthening the nation’s democratic framework by exercising their right to vote. He emphasised that every single vote counts and encouraged students not only to cast their own votes but also to motivate their family, friends and community to engage in the vital democratic exercise.

He highlighted that active participation was essential for a robust democracy, empowering citizens to influence the nation’s future.

The event included engaging activities such as cultural performances and pledge-taking ceremonies to inspire students to become ambassadors of voter awareness. The college authorities also participated in the event, reinforcing the message that youth engagement was crucial for fostering a vibrant democratic culture.

Covid patients can cast vote via postal ballot

In pursuance of provisions of Clause (e) of Section 60 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission hereby specifies that Covid-19 suspect or affected person, certified by the competent authority, who apply for voting by postal ballot paper and subject to verification of their request by the returning officer concerned, can cast their vote through postal ballot in the byelection to the Ludhiana West Assembly constituency.
