‘Waris Punjab De’ leaders submit memo to Guv, say Amritpal illegally lodged in jail

Leaders and supporters of the political party, Akali Dal Waris Punjab De, floated by Amritpal Singh, who is currently lodged in a jail under the NSA, submitted a memorandum addressed to the Punjab Governor through the district administration here on Tuesday.

The delegation of the political party, while submitting the memorandum to the administration, said Bhai Amritpal Singh was illegally lodged in a jail under the NSA. It was not just the violation of the rights of Bhai Amritpal Singh but also suppression of the voice of voters of Khadoor Sahib, who had elected him as their representative.

The leaders and supporters also held a protest in this regard on Tuesday.

Amritpal had started the campaign against drugs in the state. His movement turned youth towards morality and Sikhism. He started initiatives for the welfare of society, which should not be looked as a threat to the national security, it said.

Several youths who supported Amritpal were also lodged in various jails, against whom no charge sheets were filed. But they were illegally lodged in the prisons. It was simply a violation of the human rights and the Constitution Act. For the third time, the jail term of Amritpal was extended. Had he been a threat to the state, there would have been no crime reported in the past three years. But contrary to it, crime incidents, including gang wars, drug trade, murders and snatchings, have increased. It was nothing but the failure of law-enforcing agencies and its punishment must not be given to Amritpal and his supporters, the leaders said.
