'My Son Was Pride Of Punjab': Sidhu Moose Wala's Father Balkaur Singh To Contest 2027 Punjab Polls From Mansa

Chandigarh: In a move, that is likely to reshape political equations in Punjab, Balkaur Singh, father of the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 state assembly elections from the Mansa constituency. His announcement comes just days before the third death anniversary of his son, who was brutally murdered on May 29, 2022.

Singh, speaking at the Congress-led ‘Samvidhan Bachao Rally’ in Mansa, said that his decision stems from a relentless pursuit of justice for his son. Singh accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of shielding those responsible for Moose Wala’s death and allowing a deteriorating law and order situation to persist.

Here's what he said:

Addressing the reporters, Singh said, “My son was the pride of Punjab. But even after nearly three years, justice remains elusive. I will contest from Mansa in 2027 to strengthen this fight from within the system.”

Singh also expressed his deep dissatisfaction with the state's governance under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, particularly criticising the alleged lack of action against gangsters. He raised serious concerns over the status of Goldy Brar, the alleged mastermind behind Moose Wala’s killing, pointing out that despite promises of arrest, he remains at large.

The grieving father also noted the alarming rise in violent crimes in Punjab, alleging that criminals are operating without fear. “Murders are happening in broad daylight. What kind of justice system is this?” he questioned during his address.

Political Spotlight On Mansa Again

The Mansa seat holds symbolic weight. Moose Wala himself contested from the same constituency on a Congress ticket in 2022 but lost. Singh’s entry into politics is seen by many as an emotional yet strategic move. Congress Punjab President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring backed Singh’s decision, calling it a “courageous step”.

Meanwhile, social media reactions have been divided. While many users lauded Singh’s resilience, others accused him of leveraging his son's fame for political mileage. Singh and his wife Charan Kaur, who recently welcomed a child through IVF, are reportedly focusing on both family and activism.
