Virat Kohli scripts history in IPL 2025, becomes first player in the world ever to achieve THIS feat
New Delhi: Star RCB batter, Virat Kohli extended his excellent IPL 2025 performance in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s final league game against Lucknow Super Giants on May 27 in Lucknow.
In a crucial match requiring a top-two finish to advance to the final, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt opened the innings for RCB, facing a challenging 228-run target. The final is scheduled for June 3rd at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
Kohli and Salt’s 61-run partnership, built in only 34 balls, propelled their team to a strong start. Salt contributed a quick 30 runs from 19 balls before being dismissed. Kohli then scored 54 runs off 30 balls, marking his eighth half-century of the season and setting a new record.
Virat Kohli achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first player to score 9000 T20 runs for a single team (Royal Challengers Bangalore). This significantly surpasses the next highest total, held by Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians), who has approximately 3000 fewer runs.
Virat Kohli holds the IPL record for most runs scored (8605), a total unmatched by any other player. He is unique in having played exclusively for the Royal Challengers Bangalore throughout the league’s 18 seasons and also amassed 424 runs for the team in the now-disbanded Champions League T20.
This was the third year in a row that Kohli passed the 600-run mark in the IPL, having also done so in the previous two years. This time around he has reached 600 IPL runs in a season five times which is a record no one else has achieved.
In 13 innings during the 2025 IPL, Virat Kohli managed 602 runs and averaged 60.20, hitting the ball at a rate of 147.91. If he continues to score big, he could be the first player to rack up this many runs in three consecutive seasons.
Shubman Gill could match Virat Kohli as the only player in more than one season to pass 700 runs.
