Maharana Pratap Jayanti Leads to Bank Holiday in Shimla
While Monday, May 26, was a holiday in Agartala as the region celebrated the Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Later in the week, on Thursday, May 29, 2025, banks in Shimla will be closed to commemorate Maharana Pratap Jayanti. The day marks the birth of Maharana Pratap, the legendary Rajput ruler celebrated for his bravery and resistance against Mughal expansion. His legacy is especially revered in Northern India, and the day is marked with various local events.
Weekend Banking Schedule and Online Services
Although banks in Agartala and Shimla will remain closed for two days next week, nationwide banking will continue as usual on Saturday, May 31, 2025. According to RBI guidelines, banks operate on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of the month, while remaining closed on the second and fourth Saturdays. Therefore, since May 31 is the fifth Saturday, bank branches will remain operational. However, like every week, all banks across India will be closed on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
Banking Services Still Accessible Online
Despite the physical branch closures, online banking platforms will remain functional throughout the holidays. Customers can access a wide range of services, including NEFT and RTGS fund transfers, demand drafts, cheque book requests, and credit or debit card-related services. Facilities such as applying for lockers, setting standing instructions, and updating account information will also be available digitally.
