Chennai Court Convicts Gnanasekaran In Anna University Sexual Assault Case

A Mahila Court in Chennai has convicted Gnanasekaran in the high-profile Anna University sexual assault case, affirming that all charges against him have been conclusively proven. The sentence details are expected to be pronounced on June 2.

Mahila Court Judge M Rajalakshmi has found Gnanasekaran guilty of 11 charges, including rape, as per a report on Times of India.

The incident, which shocked the city, took place on December 23, 2024. Gnanasekaran, a resident of Kottur and operator of a nearby biryani stall, was accused of trespassing onto the university campus, where he sexually assaulted a female student in a secluded area and physically attacked her male companion, reported The News Minute.

Swift action followed the incident, as the survivor and a professor from the university’s Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) committee lodged a formal police complaint. Gnanasekaran was apprehended by the Greater Chennai Police just two days later, on December 25.
