DMK Finalises 4 Rajya Sabha Candidates, Kamal Haasan Among Nominees — Details
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Wednesday unveiled its list of candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu, confirming that Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief and veteran actor Kamal Haasan will be among the nominees.
The party’s other candidates include senior advocate and sitting MP P Wilson, renowned Tamil writer Salma, and party leader SR Sivalingam. This announcement follows the seat-sharing pact between the DMK and MNM, with the DMK allocating one of its four Rajya Sabha seats to accommodate Haasan.
The Election Commission had earlier declared that biennial elections to fill six vacant Rajya Sabha seats from Tamil Nadu will be conducted on July 19, 2025. These vacancies arise due to the completion of the terms of six incumbent members—Anbumani Ramadoss, M Shanmugam, N Chandrasegharan, M Mohammed Abdulla, P Wilson, and Vaiko—whose tenures end on July 25, reported The New Indian Express.
With this move, the DMK continues to reinforce its alliance strategy while ensuring representation for prominent voices in law, literature, and cinema in the Upper House.
