Century Hero Rishabh Pant Punished! BCCI Penalizes Him & Full LSG Squad

The final league match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Ekana Stadium ended in drama both on and off the field.

While RCB sealed a top-two finish with a six-wicket win, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant lit up the night with a scintillating century - only to be fined afterward along with his entire team.

BCCI takes disciplinary action

Following the match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) penalized Pant for a slow over rate, slapping him with a Rs 30 lakh fine. The rest of the LSG playing XI were fined Rs 12 lakh each. In its official statement, the board stated that Pant was found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 70.

"As it was his team's third offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 30 Lakh," an IPL media release stated.

"The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either Rs 12 Lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser."

Pant's century in vain

Batting first, LSG posted a daunting 227/3, led by Pant's explosive 118 off 61 balls - his second IPL century - laced with 11 fours and 8 sixes. Mitchell Marsh also chipped in with a powerful 67 from 37 balls.

RCB's record run chase

RCB responded with confidence, chasing down the target in just 18.4 overs at 231/4. Jitesh Sharma stole the spotlight with an unbeaten 85 off just 33 balls, striking 8 fours and 6 sixes. It was Jitesh’s maiden IPL fifty and earned him the Player of the Match award.

With this win, RCB confirmed their place in Qualifier 1, where they'll face table-toppers Punjab Kings on May 29 in Mullanpur.
