'Only one REALLY BAD thing – World War 3': Dmitry Medvedev warns Trump over Putin 'playing with fire' remark

A day after US President Donald Trump said "really bad things" happening to Russia, Vladimir Putin's predecessor Dmitry Medvedev said there is only "one REALLY BAD thing" and that is World War 3.

Trump on Tuesday said the Russian President was "playing with fire" following Moscow's drone attack on Kyiv, killing 13 people.

The US president warned Kremlin, saying, "What Vladimir Putin doesn't realise is that if it weren't for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD."

On Sunday, the US leader said Putin has "gone absolutely crazy", saying the Russian president has no idea "what the hell" happened to him.

Clapping back at Trump, Dmitry Medvedev, who was Russian president from 2008 to 2012, said, "I only know of one REALLY BAD thing – WWIII. I hope Trump understands this!" Medvedev is currently the deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council.

Calling Medvedev's remarks reckless and unfortunate, US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg called it does not fit a world power to stoke fears of World War 3.

Medvedev's comments come months after Putin warned of possibility of a nuclear war in a March 2024 address. "Everything that the West comes up with creates the real threat of a conflict with the use of nuclear weapons, and thus the destruction of civilisation,” Putin said back then.

On Tuesday, the Russian forces captured four villages – Novenke, Basivka, Veselivka and Zhuravka – in Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region as Volodymyr Zelenskyy pushes the US to increase military aid to Kyiv. The Sumy region wa used by Ukrainians as a launchpad for their attack on Russia's Kursk region. However, Moscow regained control of the lost territory in April.
