Veteran Indian actor Kamal Haasan sparked a huge row when he claimed that Kannada was born out of Tamil. His remarks were heavily criticised by pro-Kannada activists, calling them ‘uncultured’ and insulting to the speakers of the language. But do the two languages have any connection?
