Odisha Vigilance Nabs Revenue Inspector and Accomplice for Taking Bribe in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: Odisha Vigilance apprehended Sashi Bhusan Behera, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Gandanali Revenue Circle under Hindol Tahasil, Dhenkanal district, along with Bishnu Ballav Khatua, a private individual, on Wednesday.

The duo was caught red-handed inside Behera’s office chamber while accepting a bribe of Rs.60,000 from a complainant.

The bribe was demanded to process and provide favorable reports for four mutation cases, with Behera allegedly insisting on Rs.15,000 per case, totaling Rs.60,000. The complainant, facing persistent delays and harassment despite repeated requests, reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities.

Acting swiftly, the Vigilance team set up a trap and caught Behera and Khatua in the act of accepting the bribe.
The entire amount of Rs.60,000 was recovered and seized from the accused.

Meanwhile, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to Behera to investigate potential disproportionate assets. A case has been registered under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.13/2025, U/s-7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation against Behera and Khatua is ongoing .
