BREAKING: Netanyahu confirms Israel killed senior Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar

According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mohammed Sinwar, a prominent Hamas leader, was killed by Israel in a recent airstrike in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu included Sinwar among the Hamas leaders killed by Israeli attacks in a speech to the parliament.

Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas chief and one of the masterminds of the October 7, 2023 attack, was assassinated by Israeli soldiers last year; Mohammed is his brother.

The body of Muhammad Sinwar was discovered in a tunnel hit by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on May 18.

“Based on all indications, Mohammed Sinwar was killed in a strike carried out on the grounds of the European Hospital in Khan Younis,” Israel Defense Minister Israel Katz stated during a meeting with lawmakers that was held behind closed doors.

Who is Muhammad Sinwar?

Muhammad Ibrahim Hassan Sinwar, who was born in the Khan Yunis refugee camp in Gaza in 1975, ascended through the ranks of Hamas over the course of several decades. Sinwar, who became a crucial thinker and military commander inside the organization, was referred to the Israeli officials as “the shadow” because of his tendency to remain clandestine

Muhammad Sinwar was a key player in the high-profile 2006 kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, which ultimately resulted in a 2011 prisoner exchange agreement.

Muhammad Sinwar became the leader of Hamas when his brother Yahya Sinwar, who is widely regarded as the mastermind of the fatal Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023, passed away.
