Ellenabad MLA seeks special package to boost development
In a recent meeting held in Chandigarh, Ellenabad MLA Bharat Singh Beniwal met Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and demanded a special development package of Rs 150 crore for the Ellenabad constituency. The demand was made through a formal memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, in which Beniwal highlighted the urgent need for infrastructure and basic amenities in the backward region bordering Rajasthan.
Beniwal emphasised that the people of Ellenabad had long been deprived of essential services such as clean drinking water, proper roads, irrigation facilities, healthcare, and electricity in rural hamlets (dhanis). To address these challenges, he urged the Chief Minister to release the special package aimed at improving the overall standard of living in the area.
In addition to the special financial request, Beniwal placed eight specific development demands before the Chief Minister. He requested the extension of the Jamal–Jogiwala stretch of the Ottu Head to Jamal New Mangala Direct Drain, which would improve water flow and drainage in the region. He also called for the construction of a girls’ college in the Chautala area to promote women education.
Addressing the issue of waterlogging and soil salinity, Beniwal urged action in villages suffering from high salt content in the soil (sem problems), which affected agriculture. He further proposed the construction of sports stadiums in both Ellenabad and Chautala, similar to the Bhagat Singh Stadium in Sirsa, to promote youth sports and physical development.
A significant part of his demand included the approval of long-pending irrigation and canal remodeling estimates worth Rs 70 crore under the Irrigation and Command Area Development Authorities (CADA) schemes. These projects have been delayed for years and are crucial for boosting agricultural productivity in the region.
Beniwal also demanded the widening of roads connecting Sirsa to Ellenabad, Sirsa to Jamal, and Sirsa to Bhadra to improve transportation and connectivity. He suggested building tar-coated roads on both sides of the Ghaggar river embankments, which would help prevent erosion and improve accessibility for surrounding villages.
Lastly, he highlighted the urgent need to clean and deepen the Ottu Head canal, which hasn’t been maintained for years. This would increase water storage capacity and directly benefit farmers by ensuring better irrigation during critical farming seasons.
After his meeting, Beniwal expressed hope that Chief Minister Nayab Saini would address these pressing issues and allocate the necessary funds.
