Woman, servant get life term for murdering kin over land dispute

In a chilling case of greed-driven murder, Sessions Judge RC Dimri of Yamunanagar has sentenced Babita (38) and her domestic help Rishipal (31) to life imprisonment for killing Babita’s unmarried brother-in-law Kuldeep (25) with the intent of grabbing his agricultural land. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the convicts.

Sudhir Kumar Sindher, Deputy District Attorney, said the murder was carried out with the help of Babita’s minor son and servant, both residents of Yamunanagar district — Babita hailing from Bhamnoli village and Rishipal from Nagal Patti.

The incident dates back to January 27, 2023, when Bilaspur police received information about a body lying beneath the Somnadi bridge near Bhamnoli. The body was later identified as Kuldeep, a resident of the same village.

Initially booked as a case of murder by an unidentified person, the investigation soon pointed to Babita as a suspect. Upon being taken into custody, she confessed to the crime.

During interrogation, Babita admitted, “Kuldeep was unmarried, and I killed him with the help of my minor son and servant to grab his agricultural land.” She further said the body was thrown off the bridge to make it appear like an accident.

The court’s verdict brings closure to a case that shocked the local community with its betrayal and brutality within the family.
