Delhi Mayor holds review meeting on monsoon preparedness

In a bid to prevent waterlogging and ensure effective monsoon preparedness, Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting with Deputy Commissioners from all 12 zones of the Municipal Corporation.

The meeting focused on desilting of drains, identifying waterlogging hotspots, and enhancing coordination between civic agencies ahead of the monsoon.

Deputy Mayor Jai Bhagwan Yadav and Leader of the House Pravesh Wahi also attended the meeting and shared their inputs with officials to streamline monsoon readiness efforts.

During the meeting, the Mayor directed Deputy Commissioners to carry out desilting operations across all zones on a “war footing.” He instructed officials to identify critical waterlogging points in their respective jurisdictions and submit a detailed report. Nodal officers will be appointed at each vulnerable site to monitor the situation and ensure timely interventions.

“All zones must be adequately equipped with machines, pumps, and sanitation staff—including beldars—to enable swift responses in case of waterlogging,” the Mayor said, stressing the importance of logistical preparedness.

He added that the aim is to build stronger inter-agency coordination and apply lessons from previous years to prevent disruptions this monsoon season. The mayor emphasised that all essential drain-cleaning work must be completed before the onset of heavy rains to avoid inconvenience to residents.

“Special attention must be given to the identified waterlogging points across all 12 zones," he said, adding that the completion of all essential works before the onset of the monsoon is imperative to ensure smooth desilting of drains and prevent any inconvenience to the public.
