2 killed after bike entangles with high-tension wires

In a tragic incident at Tikri Naryal in Parwanoo last night, two migrant workers were electrocuted when their motorcycle became entangled in loosely hanging high-tension (HT) power lines. The victims sustained severe burn injuries and were rushed to ESI Hospital, Parwanoo, where doctors declared them brought dead.

The deceased have been identified as Basant Kumar (35) from Rae Bareli and Brajesh Kumar (22) from Kushinagar, both in Uttar Pradesh. Police investigations revealed that the two were employed at a printing press in Naryal and were returning to their rented accommodation on a motorcycle when the fatal mishap occurred.

A case has been registered under Sections 125 and 101(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to reckless acts endangering public safety and culpable homicide. Solan SP Gaurav Singh stated that the wires were live at the time of the accident. “Had the power supply been disconnected in time, the tragedy could have been prevented,” he said.

Vikas Gupta, Executive Engineer at Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL), Parwanoo, explained that the incident was triggered by the bursting of a regulator’s pin insulator, which caused a blast and snapped live wires. He added that recent lightning had caused multiple faults in the system, leaving the infrastructure vulnerable to damage.

Since the incident occurred in the evening, the fallen wires were not visible on the road, making them a hidden hazard for commuters. Authorities are now facing growing concerns over the maintenance of electrical infrastructure and the safety protocols in place to prevent such accidents.
