937 trained graduate teachers to be recruited: Minister

Education Minister Rohit Thakur today said that the government would shortly fill 937 posts of Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) through the Rajya Chayan Aayog. The Aayog had advertised the posts, seeking application from eligible candidates. The minister added that over 1,800 JBT posts would also be filled through the Aayog shortly.

Applications have been sought for 425 TGTs in arts, 343 in non-medical and 169 in the medical stream. The selected candidates will be appointed as trainees, with a pay scale Rs 22,860 per month. The recruitment will help the Education Department fill vacancies in the remote areas of Shimla, Sirmaur, Kullu and Chamba, where many schools do not have teachers. There are many schools where medical and non-medical TGTs are not available.

In the Class XII results announced by the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, all 21 students of a school in Sirmaur district failed, as there was no maths and science teachers for more than two years. Besides fresh recruitments, the department is trying to provide teachers in every school through rationalisation of postings as well. There are teachers in many schools in urban areas and the department has been trying to deploy them in schools where there’s a shortage of teachers.

Meanwhile, the Education Minister has said that the state had started performing well in education, alluding to the ASER report this year which showed significant improvement in various parameters. The minister expressed confidence that the state would perform well in the upcoming National Assessment Survey as well. The minister visited a private school at Rohru and expressed concern over the increasing trend of drug abuse among the youth. He stressed the need for collective efforts to prevent it.
