Chamba’s initiative for modern agri practices
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chamba, will conduct a “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan” from May 29 to June 12. The event aims to educate farmers about modern agricultural techniques and the use of improved seeds for better productivity.
Dr Dharmendra Kumar, senior scientist and in-charge of KVK Chamba, said the initiative is focused on equipping farmers with the necessary knowledge for the upcoming kharif crop season. The campaign will involve experts from various departments, including agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, animal husbandry, and the agricultural technology management agency (ATMA) project.
As part of the campaign’s first phase, awareness programs will be held in nearly 200 villages, excluding the tribal development block of Pangi. Dr Kumar said KVK Chamba has formed three dedicated teams to ensure effective implementation. Dr Kumar will lead one of the teams, while the other two will be led by senior scientist Dr Kehar Singh Thakur and scientist Dr Sushil Dhiman. These teams will engage directly with farmers to share knowledge and address their concerns.
To further enhance the outreach and impact of the campaign, local farmer producer organisations (FPOs) such as Panjungla, Van Bandhu and Holi Valley, along with NGOs like Ceva, Pahaad and Suvidha, will actively participate in the initiative.
Dr Kumar urged all farmers in the district to attend the programmes being organised at the local level during the campaign period and take advantage of the opportunity to learn about innovative agricultural practices.
